This past weekend I made a quick trip back home for my sister’s baby shower celebrating my soon-to-be niece!
(Could a pregnant lady be any cuter?)
I cohosted the party with our momma which, as you can imagine, was difficult to plan from different states so she basically did all the work and I just showed up 😉
Guests were welcomed with a chalkboard greeting and bright balloons confirming that they were indeed at the right house. What baby shower would be complete without some fun banners?
Jesse and my dad also helped by setting up the tables and decorating the patio with festive lights and lanterns!
We had a great group show up to help celebrate including this handsome fellow, Jude!My grandma on my mom’s side was able to attend and we realized after that we had four generations in the picture!!The baby shower was at 10:00 in the morning so we decided to do a brunch assortment. Actually, regardless of the time I probably would have chosen brunch food anyways because really, is there anything better than brunch?By far, the most popular dish was my mom’s amazing crustless spinach and bacon mini quiches. They were the hit of the party and on the way out the door almost everyone grabbed one more for the road! As requested by many, here is the recipe for these crustless mini quiches.
For drinks we used mason jars and fun flagged straws (Pinterest inspired of course!) and served water with raspberries, strawberry punch, and coffee. For dessert we went the mess-free route and served cupcakes! We had (my favorite) hummingbird cupcakes with cream cheese frosting which is a denser cake with bananas, coconut, pineapple, and walnuts (yum). If you want to give the lovelies a try, my mom shared the recipe for the hummingbird cupcakes over on her blog Imagine Great Living. For those who weren’t feeling very fruity or nutty, we also offered pink strawberry cupcakes!
I think the cupcakes were a hit, at least that’s what Jude told me.
For games, we tried to steer clear of the traditional baby shower games that make guest cringe like taste the baby food or which candy bar is in this nasty diaper? Instead we played a trivia game where guests had to guess what Samantha and her husband’s responses to various questions (“what will be baby’s first word be,” “what will she be when she grows up?” etc.) My favorite is when everyone had to guess what food Sam has craved the most during pregnancy, Ice cream! Chocolate! Pickles? Nope. Cheese. I don’t think anyone got that one right! We also played a “left and right” where my mom read a story about a baby shower which used the words “left” and “right” several times. The guests passed gifts right and left each time the heard the corresponding words until the story was over and the person holding the gift won!Last, we played “The Price is Right” where we lined up baby products with various prices and guests had to match which price went with each item. Sam then went up and placed the prices she thought were correct in front of each item while the guests all yelled prices at her, just like they do on the real Price is Right! Whoever had the most prices right on their game card won a prize!
After all the games it was time for presents! How adorable is this little cake McKenzie made? Under the blanket frosting was a 3-tiered diaper cake and scattered on top were cute little baby clothes!
Sam received lots of adorable little outfits which will ensure that she will be the most stylish baby around! And how cute is this hippo robe?My sister-in-law, Jackie, made Sam the most beautiful little quilt that she made and designed all by herself. Did I mention she has a full-time job, three young kids, and made this is 3 weeks!! Unbelievable! After presents we said a big THANK YOU and goodbye to all of our lovely guests. As a token of our appreciation, we sent guests home with homemade peppermint sugar scrubs. After all the guests had left, my mom, McKenzie, and I all performed the ceremonial ritual of placing our hands on the baby. Just kidding! Baby bunny was just thumping around in there and we all had lots of giggles and squeals feeling her move (Sam was a good sport letting us weirdos poke at her belly)!
My sweet little niece is expected in the beginning of July and I couldn’t be more excited! Let the spoiling begin!
